The Alamitos Beach District of Long Beach was created as Alamitos Beach Townsite in the 1880's, one of the first time there was any notoriety was in January 1988 in the 1st edition of the Long Beach Journal the first daily newspaper in Long Beach. Which spoke of the area as "Simply perfect, with not an obstruction to interrupt the course" speaking of the beach and lay of the land. Press Telegram, Friday, November 27, 1967 Alamitos Beach Townsite was planed by John W Bixby after the Rancho Los Alamitos was acquired by he and his cousins who where partners in the Bixby Land Company, they acquired the property after the Great Drought of 1863-64 which resulted in the loss of the property in Foreclosure, it was previously owned by Thomas Stearns who in the 1850's was the largest land owner in Southern California. The Original Townsite Extends from Alamitos Beach Blvd on the West to Euclid (formally Termino) on the East, North from the Pacific Ocean to 10th Street. Mr. Bixby, spoke of the Townsite "Alamitos Beach is the not Long Beach's rival but her Crowing Jewel" Alamitos Beach is laid on the liberal principals" Alamitos Beach has no Saloons" It was the intention of Mr. Bixby and the original residences that Alamitos Beach would be a separate city. It remained as a separate Townsite until annexed by the City of Long Beach on November 30th 1909 after a bitter fight, it was annexed by a vote of its residence on 214 to 119 after several attempts to annex between 1905 and 1909. Today most of the area is located in Zip Codes 90802, 90803 and 90814. Located in the area are schools, shops, Bixby Park (formally Alamitos Park) Single Family Homes, Condominiums, Apartment Buildings, excellent restaurants. The Jewel of the Area now as it was in 1988 is Ocean Boulevard with its access to the Beach, High Rise Deluxe Condominiums starting with The Villa Riviera, 800 E. Ocean Blvd to the Queens Surf of the East and its many magnificent homes stretching along Ocean Boulevard from Junipero Ave to Euclid. With in Alamitos Beach are located the Historic area known as Bluff Park, Carroll Park and Rose Terrace.
